Gameplay Programmer
Firefly Studios · London
Опубликовано: 24 июля · Источник: Work With Indies
We are looking for a dedicated and passionate Intermediate level Generalist Gameplay Programmer to join a team of 10+ developers, working on an ambitious new RTS in Unity, alongside 3 other Programmers. This is a fantastic opportunity for any generalist programmer who likes to get their hands stuck into lots of different areas of gameplay programming.
You will work closely with the other programmers, brainstorming different approaches to problems together, and splitting up the work amongst yourselves. It is essential that you have a strong voice and are able to look at a problem and propose your own solutions, rather than waiting to be told how to do it. While the environment is collaborative, you must be confident in your ability to self direct and produce results without close oversight.
Some areas this role will involve include AI Behaviours, Building Behaviour, Game Systems Programming – and more! We are looking for a generalist gameplay programmer who can take a chunk out of each part of making the game.
As a note – Firefly Studios explicitly does not allow any form of Generative AI, including AI Generated Code. This is not up to personal discretion.
What You’ll Be Doing
Willingness to Adapt: We are not looking for someone who can only work by rote, and it is essential you have the ability to adjust to new systems or techniques, and approach problems creatively, from outside the box.
Non Reliance on Game Engines: While we are creating this game in Unity, we are looking for someone who can show they are not reliant on a specific engine, and can work outside of it, and work with the existing codebase effectively – as most of the engine is custom and doesn’t rely on the unity editor and object workflow.
Coding Languages: Code will be written in C# so confidence in this is essential, but familiarity with lower level programming eg. C++ and C is desired
Hit the Ground Running: We need someone with the skills and confidence to jump into a project alongside experienced developers and take on a sizeable workload early
Experienced in Games: Has worked on a video game project before, and has experience working in a mixed discipline teams
You will be required to demonstrate your skills via a portfolio of finished projects (demos or shipped)
Ideals
Skilled at debugging
Knows how to write runtime allocation free code
Produces code which is reasonably optimized generally, and enjoys optimizing further when necessary
Has an understanding of data-oriented programming
Has familiarity with some lower level techniques used for “from-scratch” games (e.g. intrusive linked lists)
Is open to working with a Producer following Agile methodologies (daily standups, sprints, etc)
Knowledge about and a passion for strategy games
